Forswear my agitation
2nd October 2009I love this. I love you. Marry me. What have I got to say that’s of interest to you, future husband? The song swirls in our heads, you pull me closer, we sway, the wind rolls around us as our steps turn quicker, and in the distance? A distant cackle. Someone is drunk. Smack my bottom, grip my neck and flash your smile, I’m caught.

Isn’t ‘distant’ redundant after you’ve just said ‘distance’?
And not a swear word anywhere in the piece - are you feeling well?

ah, that’s love alright in the last line.

I agree with isabelle. That’s love all right. And by love I mean bondage and by bondage I mean love. I love things.

Jim: Yes, if my purpose is to communicate meaning, of course ‘distant’ being but a question mark and an article away from ‘distance’ is offensively redundant. That’s always been the fundamental difference between us: I’m willing to risk you (and many others, no doubt) finding it redundant, if someone else (at least one other) finds it lovely and musical the way I do.
Isabelle: You usually seem to just instinctively know exactly what I mean. Can you give our friend Jim here some pointers please? ;)
Jessica Maybury: Hello and welcome, Jessica. I too love things often, and I’m currently smitten with your train of thought.

I never said it wasn’t musical. I come to your site and I persist even when frustrated because I know you don’t make arbitrary choices in you word usage. Call it therapy. I want to get it but I’ve been shackled to ‘meaning’ for a bit too long methinks.

Jim, I didn’t mean to sound snippy. God I should thank you every day for sticking through this nonsense! You are one of the few (my theory is that you’re all masochists, obviously). Just try not to worry so much about ‘getting it’ and just enjoy whatever comes to mind maybe? I don’t know.
