Lovely boy

11th October 2008

You’re such a lovely boy,
      so serene, so soft, well-spoken.
The darkness in your eyes,
      so well kept
      below the
      surface.

You’re such a lovely boy,
so calm, soft focus, so cheery.
The pain behind your stare,
      so well swept
      under the
      rug.

What’s such a lovely boy
      doing here, amongst the ruins?
The place such lovely boys
      do not tread:
      amidst my
      skirts.

Perhaps the lovely boy is not treadung on the skirts, merely trying them on for size

What a beautifully structured poem! Christ, Ani, I thought I was the only one left who gave a crap about form. Gawd bless you, dear, Gawd bless you.

Spanish Goth: I do love a boy in a skirt, me. Always had a thing for kilts, too … *drifts*

Jim: Aw, cheers Jim, but I wouldn’t get too excited, I’m just experimenting as is my wont (see response to Goth above).

Dinos X: This poem thinks you are damn lovely, too.

Lovely(ish) boy: Have you no response to these allegations against your person?

There’s something very old about this, perhaps I mean timeless, classic. Its almost Byronic. I’m sure he’d have welcomed a boy into his skirts too!

  7. drodbar comments:

Maybe this nice young chap can see through your bad girl self-image.

  8. Ani Smith comments:

Jem: Heheh. Nothing wrong with trying on a skirt or a style of writing, just to see how it feels, right?

Drodbar: Are you psychoanalysing me, Neil? I liked you so much better when you thought I was ‘intriguing’ and ‘sexy’. ;)

  9. Jess comments:

As I was reading this, I wanted to set it to music. I might just do that, if that’s all right. And if I can find the right chords.

  10. Jade comments:

clean and clearly worded, the hidden sadness
beneath the good boy or girl’s eyes.

  11. Matthew comments:

are ruined skirts made with distressed fabric ? i hope your fabric isnt too distressed. it’s a wonderful poem - thanks.

  12. Z comments:

But if lovely boys didn’t want to hang around the ruined skirts of bad girls, where would we be?

(Love this, and wish I’d written it, damn you, bitch!)

  13. Ani Smith comments:

Thanks, all. And welcome, Matthew. I do hope you’ll stick around for more damaged attire.

Ooooh, Z, be gentle with me, babe. ;)
