Down In Me

The day it was supposed to snow but didn’t

Snowman built by Ani Smith, aged eight and three quarters (plus a bit more) on the day it was supposed to snow and didThe day it was supposed to snow but didn’t began much like any other day: shiver sleep walk, steamy shower, toothpaste gag, rush coat grab and run.

The day it was supposed to snow but didn’t, I peered out the window expecting the unexpected: gleaming white ground cover, like the day it was supposed to snow and did. But this day, the day it was supposed to snow but didn’t, there was only the usual ho-hum misty grey of always.

So the day it was supposed to snow but didn’t was much like any other day: hopeful anticipation turned bitter disappointment as quickly as the “snow flurry” she witnessed through the third-floor windows had melted by the time it reached me on the first.

The day it was supposed to snow but didn’t progressed like any other day, too: with very little progress and very many progressive but ultimately useless swishing thoughts. The day it was supposed to snow but didn’t was spent inside my head where it snows whenever I want like the day it was supposed to snow and did.

The day it was supposed to snow but didn’t ended much like any other day: with dreamy hopes and hopeful dreams that return time and again, regardless of the many times it’s supposed to snow but doesn’t.

    You missed the tornado.
You know? The tornado that swept through the city?
Oh. You really did miss it.
    Never mind. Wasn’t that interesting.

Yes! Me too! You got me! The day that was supposed to snow but didn’t was more bitterly disappointing than bitterly cold. Fuck the dat that was supposed to snow but didn’t. God damn it!

I wasn’t even aware that it was supposed to snow however I was aware that it didn’t. Oh well.

I will do a whoosh just for you on my sledge.
    Happy New Year Ani xxx

AUW: Pah. I didn’t want a tornado, I wanted the white stuff, dammit.

Clarissa: I know! I say we picket the Met Office, you with me?

Ariel: Lucky you. I felt very let down. (My own fault probably, but why dwell on that when we can blame it on meteorology?)

Isabelle: You lucky, lucky girl. Enjoy every snowflake and happy new year to you, too.

the day it was supposed to anything is always the day it doesn’t, that’s why you looked out expecting the unexpected… the day it will snow is the day you don’t look for the unexpected and no-one tells you it is expected either…

    merry new year nontheless x

Ultimately useless swishing thoughts are my spiritual home.

  8. Ani comments:

Peach: You’re right, of course. I hope to remember your words when I’m looking out the window in hopes next time. You be merry this year, too.

Drodbar: You too, huh? I gathered as much. ;)

I hate, hate, hate the frustration of days it is supposed to snow but doesn’t. Suffering needs resolution, and freezing your ass off needs cold white soft stuff.

If there is a theme that you’ve been carrying with lately it is this: cyclic recycling. The turn-turning of the same old wheels to the same old places, different segments in time but the same spatial location, the same repeats in history.

I wonder what’s got Ani fixed into this spiritual rut. (I’m not sure why I referred to you in the third-person, but yeah.) I await the time where you burst out with a flurry of spinning tires and flung debris, to have all your helpful pushers fall onto their faces as your metaphorical car speeds out of reach and onto the road of Life again. :)

Z: Suffering needs resolution, yes. Truer words…

2ndhandsoul: Ani appreciates 2ndhandsoul’s wondering about her spiritual well-being. (Ugh. The third is definitely my least favourite person…)
